Aha! Here comes a New Post!

Hi, this is Iain Again.
Yes, I'm still alive and well... Much better than this blog is.

However, I'll be reviving this blog if I have readers and a reason to... Anyways, I'm just about to move to a new, bigger, better blog.

I'm going to write about my experance with Linux Today.

Now, for those of you who don't know, I recently switched from Windows XP to Linux Full-Time.
Its been nice. I'll go through a quick list of pros and cons.

Pros:

• Faster
  
• Better- Looking (compiz effects and gnome)
• More applications
• Cost Less
• Firefox all the way!
• Open Office is Great
• No Crashes Anymore!
• UI is great!
• No Viruses - Root Permissions
  

Cons:

• You need to troubleshoot to get some stuff working like:
• Sound, Dual Screen, Sleep.
• Command Line - Either Love it or not, although most things can be configured without it, it makes many things a lot easier if you get used to it.
• Limited Proprietary Application Support... (same for macs too)
• No Photoshop :(

I installed using the Wubi Installer, make it really easy, I was up and running in 30mins.
I still have all my windows document accessable by linux, and its still there if I need to boot into it.
I also had a few problems getting the right configuraltion for my dual-screens, but it was nt that bad.
WINE was able to get all the Flash loaders for school applications I needed working, which is good.
Sound was horrible to configure for Wimba, which wasn't really made to work with linux that well... Had to force the default drivers to headphones instead of speakers, not bad... would have been easy without USB headphones.

I don't game or watch many videos on my computer, (work work work... Isn't that what DVD players and Wiis are for?)...

Support for APTANA (Code Editor for Websites) was great and I've had little or no problems since.
